STEM - which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - is an approach to learning that integrates these disciplines to develop creativity, innovation and critical thinking.
Our STEM program is a very hands-on, student-centred, and engaging learning experience that inspires creativity, problem-solving, and resilience. We are passionate about giving students the freedom to design, build, and test their own ideas while valuing mistakes as an essential part of learning and growing.
We follow a design cycle that encourages students to empathise, define, ideate, create and test. This process helps them think deeply about real-world problems, generate creative solutions, and continually improve their designs through reflection and experimentation.
Some examples of our STEM learning experiences include robotics, kite design, marble runs and solar car and boat challenges, where students apply their skills and creativing to design, build and test their own innovative solutions.

The Lake Primary School offers an Arts program that includes Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Drama. We provide students with opportunities to engage their senses, explore creativity, challenge their potential and celebrate success.
Through dance, students explore the elements of dance, skills, techniques and processes. Learning in Dance is inclusive and encourages students of all abilities to participate in a supportive format, with a focus on exploring movement. Students participate in the Stomp program every second year and learn class dances to perform at the end of the year whole school celebration event.
During music lessons, students explore rhythm, beat and music literacy, developing opportunities to perform and compose using various percussion instruments. They learn how music has evolved over the decades and listen with intent to different genres to help understand how music has shaped our identity.
Drama lessons offer opportunities for students to engage in playful storytelling, small group and whole class games, which encourages students to explore their ‘creative’ side through self-expression and imaginative processes. Students work collaboratively and individually to rehearse, design, perform and evaluate their learning.
Visual Art sessions are always a favourite as students engage in opportunities to use various craft items, as they explore creative techniques and processes. Our art room is filled with student work, showcasing their success and highlighting the topics learnt across the year levels. Students explore famous artists from around the world and interpret the techniques to create their own art works. Visual Art Literacy is a core element, as students develop their knowledge of artistic concepts and processes.
