Student Leadership
At The Lake Primary School, student leadership is authentic, purposeful, and grounded in making a positive difference within the school community.
Student leadership includes the formal roles of School Captains and House Captains, as well as our Junior School Council and Wellbeing Leaders. These roles provide genuine opportunities for students to represent their peers, advocate for student needs, and promote a positive and connected school culture.
Leadership begins before Year 6 through our Year 5 Buddy Program, where students support and mentor younger peers. This early experience builds confidence, responsibility, and care for others, and provides a practical pathway into senior leadership roles.
Student leaders in Year 6 also participate in leadership teams that reflect students' interests, strengths, and passions. These teams have included:
These teams plan, organise, and lead projects that enrich school life and strengthen community connections.
Beyond formal roles and teams, our student leadership program is project-based and driven by student voice and agency. Students work in collaborative teams to identify needs, design projects, and lead initiatives that benefit others. They learn to communicate clearly, problem-solve, listen, and take action. Strengths and values guide the way, helping students understand who they are as leaders and how they can use their abilities to support and inspire others.
The program incorporates the GRIP Leadership Program, which supports students to build confidence, character, and a service mindset.
Student leadership at TLPS fosters independence, resilience, and a commitment to community. Students experience what it means to work with purpose, to contribute beyond themselves, and to lead in service of others. It empowers young people to shape their community now and prepares them to step confidently into the future.
